Make a Windowless Bathroom Brighter!

August 15, 2014 - Updated: August 15, 2014

Make a Windowless Bathroom Brighter

Have a bathroom that doesnt have a window? Here are some tips to make your windowless bathroom brighter!!

1) Hang a Chandelier

Putting a chandelier into a bathroom can add a creative touch to a room. It will bring the focus away from the lack of windows and the beauty of the item. Also, the crystals on the chandelier will reflect light making the room seem bigger and more luminous.

2) Metalics

An easy fix is having accent pieces in the bathroom metallic. These shiny surfaces help to brighten up a room by reflecting the light all aruond. Even adding pearlescent tiles half way up the wall can definitely brighten up the room.

3) Fill Up on Art

Rather than putting the typical "bathroom artwork" into the bathroom, try for more modern pieces that are bright and vibrant. These types of pieces can make a small space seem larger and your attention will be brought there rather than to the size of the bathroom.

4) Use Soft Lighting

An important component when it comes to lighting in a small space is making sure that there is light going in multiple directions. Try not to have a light fixture that focuses on one part of the space, but rather use fixtures such as bracket lights that will shine light all over the room to give it a bigger feel.

5) Add an Additional Mirror

Adding another mirror to a small bathroom will give you a perceived sense that the bathroom is bigger as well as the reflection off the mirror will create more light in the bathroom making the room feel bigger.

6) Choose a Light Colour for the Floor

Try to avoid putting dark floors into a bathroom that is either small or does not have any windows. Also avoid dark colours on the walls. These two things can make a windowless room feel very closed in.  A simple fix is painting the walls an earth tone and having very light coloured tiles to make the room feel more open!
